A perhaps off the track historical tidbit re SNOBOL4: Dave Hanson
retargeted Ratfor to work with SNOBOL4 rather than FORTRAN. He called it
Ratsno. I've never met anyone else who used it for serious work, but it
was my primary language for the last two years of my undergraduate
course-work.
I believe there was a Software Practice and Experience paper by Hanson on
Ratsno c. 1978 or so. The paper focused more on the transformation of
Ratfor -- he did it in an afternoon.
